You'd need a scale to demonstrate this to yourself, but updosing ~1.5 grams will shift a normale to a ristretto-ish espresso for some coffees, choke the machine for others. Updosing half of that (~.75 grams) will extend the pour by a few seconds and noticeably shift the flavor profile / body. Updosing half of that (~0.3 grams), few if any would taste the difference.
