Super Jolly Timer Replacement Switch

Postby Psyd on Wed May 06, 2009 7:25 pm

A friend has an SJ timer that was forced open too many times, and has failed. Completely, and spectacularly. Mazzer dealers want a c-note for the thing. *sigh*
Anyone have a line on a decent replacement rotary on-off switch that will maintain the look of the stock SJ and perhaps, be able to re-use the same knob? I can the the switch to mate up with the SJ's body, all I need is a switch that turns CW to go on, and back CCW for off.
Preferably something rated for the 5A that the motor pulls, and for at least a coupla thousand switching cycles.

I'm looking to replace the timer with an on/off switch. Could be something similar to the auto switch, but wouldn't require the auto's 'off/on/start' positioning. 'On' and 'off' would be fine.

FOUND IT! The switch has off-on-start. It was designed for the microswitch system, therefore it clicks from off to the on position, and from on it spring-loads to the start position and returns to the on position. Let me know

When you bypass(jumper) the doser microswitchs the Auto switch works like a standard on/off switch & the "start" function isn't used.

Actually, on both of my autos with the microswitch jumpered, 'start' gets it going, 'on' allows it to remain going, and 'off' stops it. Turning the switch from 'off' to 'on' does nothing but *clik*.

In any case, this is an SJ timer with a busted timer switch, and I'm looking for an on-off switch to replace the timer. A switch form an auto would be perfect.

Did you also jumper the lower switch connections? I did both & the switch works as I described.

Hmmm... no, because the other micros switch should just disco the motor switch. You know, when the hopper is full.
That would explain it.
So, we've got a new technique figured out. If you want it to work like a car (you have to turn it to 'start' to get it to go, and it spring loads back to 'on' and stays running til you turn it to 'off') just jumper the lower switch. If you want it to work like a simple on-off switch, with the 'start' position being superfluous, jump both!
