Spong coffee grinder missing cup

Postby Melior58 on Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:29 pm

Hi,

Just wanted to thank the host of the site for his briefing on Spong coffee grinders. It is the best info on these I have seen anywhere. The end result was my purchasing a #3 earlier this year. A coffee corner is being built in my kitchen, and the Spong will be wall mounted, but on a small shelf.

Now the question. What does one do for cups when none came with the grinder (which seems to be the case most of the time.) There is not much room to fit anything in the space provided. If I have a shelf under the grinder there is even less room. But the shelf mounting bracket seems to be in the way no matter what one does.

Do I cut down a cardboard coffee cup or what? LOL

Anyone have good ideas on this?

Happy holidays,

Richard

I have a Spong #2 mounted on my kitchen island and these disposable containers fit snuggly right underneath the grounds exit:

From the pictures in the original Spong thread, the clearance between the bottom of the grinder and the mounting surface doesn't seem to change too much as you go up in grinder size so they might work well for you as well. With the #2, these containers catch almost all of the exiting grounds, minimizing the mess, and can hold 40-50 grams of ground coffee.

I've got a #1 spong. If you don't put flush with wall these work ok. I figure if you have the #3 which is bigger this would be perfect no matter how you mount.

I have the no. 3 as well and I use the smallest size tupperware that comes in the ikea tupperware set seen here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60149673/
It fits nice and snugly under the exit of the grinder and catches everything that comes out. Should be fine for wall mounting and countertop mounting. Plus if friends come over for dinner, you don't have to worry about loosing your precious tupperware when you send them off with leftovers!

Thanks for the info on substitute Spong cups. Your comments are appreciated. My delayed reply is due to (still) ongoing construction in the kitchen. And living room. (Will it ever end?) LOL

I think someone could have a nice little side business making these cups. No, not me. I have 50 projects too many as it is!
