Somewhat urgent Mazzer Major electrical question

Postby GewoW on Sat Dec 05, 2009 12:37 am

Hey all,

I just need to know what the two circled wires have to be placed (the ends of each one look the same), so that I can close the grinder up after I short the 2 wires for the power switch.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Normally any wires that are green or green/yellow are earth wires

If I had the special star drive tool I would remove the base from my Mazzer Major to confirm

The green wire, coming from the power cord, is the ground wire of the power cord, it is tied to the round prong in the power plug.

It looks like one end of the yellow wire is tied to the body of the major.

I think the green wire and yellow wire should be connected to a screw, into the bottom plate, to ground the bottom plate. This will also ground the body. The hole in the plate, by the green wire in the picture, looks like it might have been used for this, you just need a nut and screw and you're set.

connect them both to a screw in the hole to the left of the green wire.

They are both ground wires as mentioned above...

Make sure to sand the area a bit to get rid of paint and dirt to insure a good ground connection :D

Here's a shot of my Major I took a long time ago. If you look at the lower left corner you can see that the green wire goes to the baseplate as ground as others have already mentioned, and can't quite see from the photo but the yellow/green-stripe wire looks like it goes to the same place.

In US parlance, green is ground, so the green wire on the Edison connectored cable is the grounding conductor. In Euro parlance, the earthed (ground) is designated by a yellow/green wire, so the baseplate and the chassis of the grinder are bonded together by that wire. Think of it as a green ground that is 'jumped' from the baseplate to the chassis by the yellow/green.
