Grinder Data "B.N.Z. MD 74" (68mm conical)

Postby norschtein on Fri May 20, 2011 6:44 pm

hi.
i got in touch with the vendor of a second hand B.N.Z. MD 74 grinder, a brand i have barely seen any grinders in natural over here (germany).... additionally it seems to be hard tracing reliable model data. at least i couldn't manage to find a company's site.

as far as i know the MD 74 runs with 68mm conicals, planatary gear, 400rpm, 250watts (ONLY!)
if the latter is a matter of fact - will it shaken my nerves? i do have a fiorenzato doge conical (71mm/ 350watts), which much(!)-too(!)-frequently(!) jams. due to torque.

any review about the grind quality & torque management of the MD 74 would be highly appreciated! :P

I think you may need to post the question on Coffeesnobs or other Aussie forums, since the most hits for BNZ come from there. Here's the best page I found; it links to a parts diagram. BNZ has the usual Italian style no info site

Looks highly similar to the faema mc/cimbali conik. I do not have had any issues with the grinder stalling as do countless italian espressobars; the faema mc is being produced since at least 1962 with only differing bodystyles.

thanks JIM, for constantly contributing to my grinder issues in a helpful way!
and thanks BLUECOLD, for pointing to 'genetical' analogy between bnz, faema, and cimbali grinders concerning technical data!

Hi Axel,
Looks like a calculation error to me. The conical is described to have a 0,6 HP motor, which would correspond to approx. 450 Watt instead of 250 Watt mentioned on their page.
Best regards

I have the BNZ MD74 grinder
It has never stalled on me,
On occasions I like to grind for Greek/Turkish style and although its not to talcum powder consistency it gets very close
And again it has never staled

Hope that helps
