Replacement burrs for Olympia Mocca Express grinder

Postby keconomos on Mon May 23, 2011 5:08 pm

We have had our Olympia Mocca Express Grinder for 20+ years- we've never replaced the burrs. Are the burrs (grinders) something that are expected to wear and need replacing?

I've noted in another posting; a place to purchase replacement grinders for this Olympia and they are only $80. Has anyone replaced them and is it a fairly simple procedure that does not require any specialty tools?

Any help or comment would be appreciated.

20 years?!? I bet those burrs are smoother than a baby's behind.

I don't know Olympia's recommended replacement schedule, but generally speaking, small diameter flat burrs work hard and thus wear quickly, doubly so if used for espresso. My guess is on the order of 50-75 pounds of coffee (corrections welcome). For most home users, that comes out to every 2-3 years.

50 to 75 pounds- yikes- I probably have 2000 lbs through there- No wonder it is working so hard.
Time to order some new burrs and figure out how to change them.
