I went over to Orphan Espresso in Taichung today and met with Doug and Barb; all is well. :D

You could aptly call it "Team OE", there's a small group of young conscientious folks building hand grinders.

It was a fun visit, and I have to say the current version of the Pharos is a beauty compared to my early edition. The plates have a metallic looking coating/anodizing and all the other parts are manufactured with close tolerances. Early Pharos were essentially hand made in OE's Idaho workshop; design wise they're identical.

Doug and Barb like to talk about all the technical detail such as different surface coatings, plastic injection moulding, pressure casting the metal parts, etc. They're going to be at the upcoming SCAA show, if you live in the area and are interested in hand grinders I'd make it a point to stop by. :wink:
