Good to finally see some info out on this one. We are relieved to see that it is basically an up engineered Porlex and not something revolutionary...whew  .

It does look to be very well made and does directly solve many of the problems that users have with the Porlex, Kyocera, Hario mills which is a great step forward for the small format mini grinders. At the price point I would be hard pressed to assume that the burr is custom made and not a sourced part as small batching custom burrs would cost almost half their MSRP, and the machining would look more, well, German. Visually the burr looks like the one used in the Krups line of small conicals, and I somehow doubt that the burr is made of stainless steel, just the carrier...stainless steel would be far too soft for a grinding burr. Hope to get some actual details from the manufacturer beyond the Facebook marketing hype.

Their Facebook page shows their machinist sitting in front of some massive cutting machine, making the burrs. Several of their posts in their photo comments talk about it and how difficult it is. I'd share the photo, but I don't have permission here.

* I think this is ok though...

Well, if you say so. Either German machinist wages have gone down or that guy can really crank a lot of those babies out in one day!

Whatever their manufacturing methods, it still looks like it is well made and I certainly can have no beef with it. If they have all of those machinists and craftsmen laboring over it then it will be a bargain at anything less than an arm and a leg! Good to see that there are people in the world who care to make something to serve and last.

Got a reply from Keith at Able Brewing:
Hello,

Just wanted to get in touch as say that the Comandante C40 Stainless will be leaving Germany at the end of this week. Once we get inventory they will be available.

Retail: $150

We are expecting to have stock in about 2 weeks. This is the first model out of production. We will offer the full line of grinders once they become available.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,

Keith

I contacted Kevin Tuleweit, their "Product Specialist" to ask a few questions, one of which was what is the size of the Burr Set and he didn't know what I was asking....

Some more pictures....

Compare sizes

Lido and C40

Lido and C40 parts

Lido and C40 inner burr

C40 parts

C40 burr set

Please note that the Lido in the picture is modified, I have made a new shaft and a top adjustment mechanism similar to the Pharos adjustment.

And answer to some questions:
cygnusx1: no I have not tried it for espresso yet. Will do in the weekend.
JZY: C40 inner burr diameter is 29.1 mm.

I believe there's another bearing just above the burr. OP, please correct me if I'm wrong, obviously. 8)

There are two bearings, one just above the burr and another almost on the top.
