Opinions of the Anfim Caimano 73mm Conical Titanium Grinder?

Postby perstare on Tue Aug 14, 2007 10:19 pm

Just saw a thread about a new Anfim Caimano grinder, and the Caimano 450 Special w/1 horsepower, 73mm burrs made out of titanium! Does anyone own one yet? Care to give a review?

I don't own one, but Discovery Coffee in Victoria BC recently purchased one.

Over the past year, I've sampled shots on a Super Jolly, Macap M7K and the Caimano.

I was simply astounded at the first Caimano shot. Logan, head barista and an owner, assured me there were no changes to roast, blend or Synesso and the improvement is directly attributable to the grinder.

Vince at 49th advises me that Anfin does NOT make any conical burr grinders.
I hope the TITAN GRINDER project expands to include grinders either new to the marketplace
and others not previously reviewed.

I also hope manufacturers will consider the strength and niche of
developing a prosumer conical burr grinder that is aesthetically appealing (hire a renown design firm),
overcomes any mechanical deficiencies (hire a renown engineer), and appeals to a broad spectrum of
espresso cognoscente (yeah, right).

The Mazzer Major and some form of the Anfim were considered for inclusion in the TGP. We decided that the Super Jolly was more ubiquitous and reasonable for most home users for the purposes of comparing a flat burr model to other machines in the Titan lineup. I believe Dan inquired about getting an Anfim on loan (based on comments about it at coffeed.com and somewhat late in the planning stages) but he received no response.

Time for another shout out to Jim Piccinich at 1st-line for sponsoring the Titan Grinder Project and footing the shipping bill to let us learn more about these grinding machines! Thanks Jim!

According to the website, http://www.anfim.net/en/prodotti.html , the grinder you mention is only available in 380v/3phase.

Unfortunately that will probably limit home use considerably..... :o
