Occasional slow start Mazzer Robur

Postby mitch236 on Fri Dec 02, 2011 11:15 am

Yesterday my Robur developed an issue. When I grind, I start the grinder for about 2 seconds and then pulse the grinder to complete my dose (I weigh the grinds as they come out the funnel - I have the doserless version). During one of the pulses yesterday, the grinder wouldn't spin, it just sounded like it was jammed. It did start grinding again but now when I pulse, it's hit or miss as to whether it will spin up normally or whether it will start slowly.

I know there is an electronic part that helps startup (I don't know what it's called). Should I start by replacing that part?

Its capacitor that helps in start, but they are really rare to go bad...

Can the capacitor fail intermittantly?

It is possible, usually if I remember correctly from overheating.

I would definitely suspect the cap (or caps, sometimes two are used.) Another member of the site recently contacted me about his K10 stopping while grinding certain beans, and Compak is sending him new caps. Before contacting your dealer for parts, I would check the connections to the caps to make sure they're clean and secure.

Be careful & make sure you discharge capacitors (short the leads with the unit unplugged) before touching them with bare hands or you may get a jolt. Capacitors store a charge.

As it turns out, something must have been jammed because I ran 50-60 Gm of beans then vacuumed the grinder while pulsing and now all is good.

Thanks!!
