NS MDXA grinder starting issue

Postby Paul on Sun Aug 22, 2010 6:49 pm

hi folks

I have a nuova simonelli mdxa grinder with a starting problem. For those unfamiliar with these beasties, they are rebadged eureka grinders.

here's my problem, any opinions welcome;

Grinder has too little torque to start with beans in hopper. I have tried replacing capacitor (10uF) to no avail. For giggles, I tried a couple. My next step is look to see if there is any leakage between the windings and earth.

What else is there to look at?
cheers

Do you have OEM burrs?

Sometimes these have burrs cut more radially. Therefore, it take less of a turn angle to send the bean through the burr, and ups the throughput. Doing this means the motor needs more torque to start. The Duranium burrs for the Mazzer Super Jolly have this feature/problem and frequently cause stalls.

hi jim

yes, do have OEM. had to even import from far far away (USA!). they are indeed quite aggressive, the 'crush' ring looks brutal.
