New updated Mahlkoenig Pro M?

Postby Bkeef on Fri Apr 08, 2011 8:11 am

Posts have been quiet lately on this. I thought the updated US version of the Pro M was supposed to be out now. Does anyone know anything about it or the supposed improvements?

Thanks

Marshal had the new (preproduction?) model and there is information posted in this other thread:

That's the old post talking about the upcoming improvements for espresso use. **see the last page.

There was a reference of a March release. Anyone got anything on this or is it shelved?

I like the footprint and concept of this grinder but it has some bad press. Just curious if they have tweeked this

Mahlkonig will be presenting at the SCAA Expo in Houston at the end of this month. I'm sure Gary Horne will have an update that H-B'ers who visit can post about.

I suppose this thread isn't too old to bump with relevant information..

I contacted Mahlkoenig USA yesterday morning after realizing that they have a refurb outlet of some sort in Scotts Valley CA. I was planning on driving down to Santa Cruz to visit a friend anyway, and wanted to see if they had any K-3O Varios for sell that are refurbished. I also asked if they had any information about the new updated Pro M that is supposed to be a better espresso only grinder. Brian, the owner told me he had just received an email confirmation from the manufacturer stating that the new unit will be released this September.

I'm seeking the quietest, doserless grinder that is the least clump prone. I have only seen Youtube videos of each of the above grinders, so it's hard to accurately estimate noise, but I'm under the impression that the K30 Vario is the quieter of the two?

I will leave my SJ to do the job of drip and pour over coffee only. The waste and time and effort of re-dialing in after switching between espresso and drip aren't worth it to me.

The K30 is very quiet, fast, and does not clump. If the humidity increases there will be some "clumps" but they are super powdery and shake apart easily.

I found the ProM louder than the K30, even louder (higher pitch) than the Vario Home (BVario).

The new, digital espresso-only ProM was demonstrated at the Maastricht SCAE show late last month. Video here (beginning at 2:07):

It says delivery to distributors will begin this month (July) with retail pricing "under 1,000 euro."
