keno wrote:Well, apparently they didn't like it that much. I was at the downtown Heart location today and they had a K30 they used for single origins, Robur for Stereo blend, Kony for decaf, and EK43 for bulk grinding.

I asked them about the Peak and was told they tried one out at the Burnside location, but didn't like it as much as the K30 and have since switched back. Was not able to get more info than that, but it just goes to show that new and more expensive does not necessarily mean better.

I hope when the Peak comes out that HB will conduct some proper blinded testing to compare to the K30 and a few other grinders.
That's very enlightening, Ken. I am more and more less convinced the Peak warrants the $1000 premium it's commanding over its K30 predecessor, which by all intents has been a solid workhorse for the industry. I still haven't heard or seen the rave reviews I was hoping that would encourage me to pick up this essentially an upgraded K30.

Yes, there's been a lot of buzz about the Peak and a lot people who seem eager to pony up a substantial chunk of change to get one as soon as they become available.

But given the price premium and uncertainty about its added value it might make sense not to rush into being a first adopter. I'd let others try it out and wait for some good head-to-head comparisons before taking the plunge on the Peak.

Just saw that CCS posted that they won't get them now until December. Anybody knows what happened? Why the additional delay?

SO appreciate the podcast link concerning the "PEAK". There has been such a slow trickle of reliable info. I will look forward to the Milan HOST event and news coming from it about the PEAK and....

question - when Tim Wendelboe says you need to get a higher extraction percentage (closer to 22%) for the Peak, is he saying it requires higher updosing and bar pressure?

Grind finer, pull 1:2 or longer, (and use VST baskets at rated capacity) was my interpretation. However, keep in mind he was working with a prototype - which probably had the burrs pictured earlier in this thread. The production version may be different.
