In other words, can the flange be adjusted height wise to accommodate a funnel. And if it can, then the question would be whether the funnel and PF would remain stable in this position. I would love to prevent any spilling of grinds and I too dose commonly around 20grams, so being able to use a funnel would be nice. This could affect a decision to single dose with a 270 rather than use the 270w.

Looks like you answered this as I was typing. Would be a useful feedback to give Baratza for those w prototypes.

Here's my take on this. Baratza has a great idea with the 270W. By grinding by weight we get a precisely weighed dose. If grounds are spilling out of the portafilter it defeats the purpose for those like myself. That's where funnels come it. I routinely grind 18g into a 18g VST basket and with my current blend I have to use a funnel to keep the grinds in the basket. If I grind 18g I want to pull 18g. It would be great if Baratza could have made a 'cradle' for the portafilter. Then there would be no hook over the basket. Just my 2 pennies.

One workaround would be to skip the portafilter and place the basket with funnel on the side bars only. The Sette would 'hug' the basket like it would a grounds container. Grind, remove basket and funnel together and press into portafilter.

Thanks for the video. I think that settles it. No funnel/basket/portafilter in a 270W, basket/funnel only. Or, get a 270 and hold portafilter with funnel for timmed or single dose.

How do I nominate for post of the month?

You are incorrect, unless you have a mama-jama PF. My Strega PF...and Cafelat All in one and the OE small aluminum funnel worked perfectly (the Strega a better fit due the All-in-one slightly larger depth. That said I'll add 2 things, RESPECTFULLY..#1, I can grind 19 grams in my IMS basket with zero spillage in my 270..with or without the PF holder (original PF fork) and..
#2, you'll get better shots with your VST basket if you don't over-fill. They are designed for less than maximum capacity. 18 gram basket, 16.5 grams..OK sneak 17, but the Sette grind is VERY fluffy, more so than a K30 Vario, so in your case, I'd highly recommend the small OE funnel. It flanges outward just a wee bit. If you already have one, you should be good to go.

I should have been more precise. There are a couple different funnel designs out there. The OE funnel fits inside the basket and as you might be saying, can fit along with the rear portafilter clip on the Sette. That's great to hear! The other, which I'd rather use, fits on top/outside the basket (Tidaka). This funnel needs contact all along the top of the baset. If there is clip that holds the rear top of the basket, that particular funnel would not seem to fit.

Well, next week it looks like the time has come, the Settes will start shipping. Confirmed with Baratza and a couple Seattle area shops...If you are further out shipping wise, they should be on the way....

Now people can really weigh in :)

Cheers

AH! Point well taken, and I should have been more precise in saying it does take a few seconds to settle the funnel on top, DUE to the rear clip. I don't know how things will be with the new fork setup, so MY bad!

Good to hear.

I wonder if both models will be out at the same time, or whether the W lags a bit. It seemed like the pre-production Ws were quite a bit later than the timer models for testers.

Might be deserving of a new thread for retail consumer experiences.
