Need shorter hopper for Nuova Simonelli MCD65 - 53 mm OD?

Postby Boldjava on Sat Dec 11, 2010 9:25 am

I am cleaning up a Nuova Simonelli MCD65 I snagged off Craigslist. Ordered new burrs for it. Once I try the grinder with the new burrs, it may dislodge my MACAP 4 stepped doserless. (see pic for comparison). One problem - height. 26". If it outshines the MACAP's grind, I will have to bring that hopper down. Marriage is important to me after 40 years.

I rarely grind more than 70 grams at a pop. The NS hopper is a good 10" high. I can't find a shorter hopper that fits into the throat (53 mm OD). Anyone suggest a hopper that will fit? (Eureka makes the NS and La Marzocco grinders). Some of the obscure hoppers are wallet busters.

What kind of a shop can cut and buff the cut edges? I could take the hopper down to 4." I reside in Milwaukee so there must be shop -- just don't know what to look for. And no, you shouldn't suggest that I attempt it with a _________. I got a "C" in 7th grade shop -- only kid to do so. <grins>

Thx, B|Java

Resolved. My brother the engineer is going to cut and buff this for me. I will measure out about 1 lb amount, mark the hopper with a bit of a margin, pack it up and ship it off to Buffalo for his kind attention.
