Need Replacement Mazzer Grind Adjustment Collar

Postby beta14ok on Wed Dec 31, 2008 9:52 am

Does anyone have an old "SJ" that doesn't work that they are parting-out?

I'm looking for a used Grind Adjustment Collar, but I would like to have the version that is tapped for the collar adjustment pins.

I have a very old one but it is extremely difficult to turn even when cleaned. I have the collar adjustment pins, but mine is not tapped to receive them.

I know Espresso Parts has 'em...but the $90 charge is steep.

Cheers,
dmm

Have you tried to lube the threads?

Might not be the prettiest or most ideal solution, but you could always get one of those flexible strap wrenches to adjust it. Those are fairly inexpensive and would help with the adjustment. Just an idea.

The burr adjustment collar is brass afaik. Thought about taking it to a machine shop and have them drilll/tap a hole for the adjustment pin?
I suppose you have had the adjustment collar off quite a few times - sure it's not cross-threaded? If the threading is fine and the collar turns easily without the springs, just changing the springs might solve your problem. Maybe you can post a picture?

Try Googling Phaelon Coffee. He's a CG'er and sometimes poster here. Very honest, and cheaper than the big guys.
