Today I was holding down the single and double dose button to enter the menu. I looked up and started talking to someone and held the buttons for way longer than I needed. When I looked down I noticed the grinder displayed something I had never seen. It simply said GRINDZ.

After that it says START and goes to this screen.

So I was pretty confused at this so I decided to see if I could run the grinder while this display was up. Turns out I could, and the little bar at the bottom goes down until it's depleted. After it runs all the way down I hit the double dose button to enter another screen that displays 2/3. So I ran the grinder until the bars were depleted on that screen.

After that I hit the double button again and it goes to 3/3 and I do the same thing. When it's done it displays END on the display.

Th only way to exit this setting without going through all 3 screens is to turn the grinder off and back on.

After looking everywhere online and searching here there is ZERO info about this setting. Has anyone else run into this or found this setting by accident? It seems like way too long for a regular grindz cleaning takes. I wonder what this is even for and why there is absolutely no info on it anywhere.

Anyone with a k30 wanna see if this setting is on their grinder as well?

Sounds like it's a secret automated cleaning and purging routine for using Grindz.

That's what I deduced. I was more curious to see if anyone else had discovered this setting and why it's so secret. I don't think I would ever use it.

That is how you reset the CLEAN reminder,

From the operating manual:
6.4.3 Cleaning counter
Irrespective to the shot counters described above a cleaning counter is running in the background. After the fixed amount of 5,000 single shots the display will show CLEAN interchanging with the standard screen (S 2,0 resp. D 4,0).
The grinder can still be used but it should be cleaned regularly (see chapter 8 ).

Resetting the cleaning counter: Enter the menu by pushing and • holding both buttons for appr. 3 seconds. Scroll through the menu with the single pre-selection button (pos. 8 ) until the dis- play reads GRINDZ. From this point exit the menu by pressing and holding both buttons for appr. 3 seconds. The counter will be set back to Zero.

This isn't related to any cleaning counter and is not how I accessed the grindz menu I showed. I entered this menu by holding down both buttons for 10 seconds. And there is no way to exit the setting until I either run thru the whole thing or turn the grinder off and back on.

There is no grindz in my menu when I scroll thru it.

I also have the clean function turned off. These two things are in no way related and this setting is no where to be found in the manual. I looked.... For about an hour online and in my manual.

I googled mahlkonig k30 and grindz and it had a PDF file and it said NEW above that part of the manual. Perhaps call the distributor and see if they know.

Yeah I saw that part in the manual. My k30 was made 8/15. So this might be a new feature. I called Brian and no one picked up. It's not really that important. I posted about it so other k30 owners could explore this option if they wanted to and use it to clean with grindz like its intended.

I clean the grinder every Friday. So in a bit I will use this setting to do my usual grindz routine and see if it actually has a purpose or helps the process along.

And was my post hard to understand? It had nothing to do with the cleaning cycle, entering the regular menu, resetting the cleaning cycle. And two people posted those instructions back to back.

I agree, hold those two buttons long enough and you get into some undocumented features. I somehow got into the 1/3 .. 2/3 menus but not sure how I did that, and now I can't seem to get it back to display that menu. I have CLEAN set to Y, and I'm currently not getting any "GRINDZ" display on my main menu. When I dial the CLEAN value to N and back to Y, I then get an extra undocumented menu feature that lets me enter a Kg amount (mine is now set to 25 Kg) which I assume may be the appx Kg. amount between cleanings. I'm at firmware V1.20.6

...And the mystery continues...this is out of my non-K30 hands. Still curious though! :D
