Unusual question, but 385g of 6061-T11 Alu. It is the lightest material I turn, except some woods.

I think because I want the weave in the edge of the cap and not the knob, maybe something else on the knob, it could be a while. It will have to be a series of angled laminations and I currently am pretty busy with other projects.

Thank you!

Here is a great photo of intricate, but useful, body armor. Not just Bling :-)

Much easier to machine than Stainless, Alu/Nickel/Bronze, and cast iron yet because it is a bit harder than the decorative alu alloys it will take threads fairly well. I like the Alu/Ni/Brnz (c63000-)for the looks of the resulted piece but it is expensive and harder to machine.

Was wondering because I recently weighed the ebony cap on my conical (not sure why) and it dialed in about 89 grams, rather light in comparison.

The outside dimension of the Flats loading cone measures 3.28" Dia. How about the Conical?

Stephen, I just weighed the cap I made for my "flat" and it weighed in at 191.5 grams.

That range for hardwood is pretty dense. I suspect it would be a lot lighter with Spruce.
