Modding the Mazzer

Postby craigcharity on Fri Apr 15, 2011 4:14 am

Hi Guys thought I would share a mod i did on my Mazzer Major, which I have made for my Jolly's too.

It is made of mold plastic. I made a mold of the chute and drilled a hole and ground/filed down the sides. The last photo is my current design, the other two have a slightly smaller hole and a shallower gradient which caused the coffee to get stuck. I am going to test it now and post a video on YouTube to show you how it works.

will do, so far getting pretty good results, I also put a timer on the machine, it is still in its its testing phase but im really enjoying it. I think I will make a aluminum casing for it and mount it facing up on the left hand side of the doser.

craigcharity you know we have the same set up! .. im not sure exactly what year my cimbali jr is but its an old R model and i believe it to be at least 15 yrs old.. and i have 2 different mazzers .. i really need to learn to modify stuff, I know enough about how stuff works, i actually do installs and repairs when im not roasting but dont consider it fun.

I like your project, hows the doser's distribution into the portafilter? I hate how much waste the stock doser usually causes in my kitchen.

cheers

I'm very curious about the timer mod.. Do you have any more information on how you did this ?

Whoa, someone owes someone a beer. :D

My grinder is a 220v grinder that I run through a step-up transformer @3000 watts. I also own a 110v digital Gralab.. My question is, if I plug the step-up into the Gralab and leave the switch to the step-up transformer always on, will this work ?

I ask this because I see that my Gralab has a 1500 watt max to it and this step-up is 3000 watts.. The grinder is 650 watts.

Ideally, I'm looking for the simplest solution to install without burning down my house. 8)

Thanks and long live the Cimbali Jr's

for awhile the training room at work had a 1 group 220v Espresso Machine running on a step up box, we didnt keep it more than a couple months, it was on loan, and i dont know what its specs were but it worked pretty well, the step up transformer was a little big and buzzy though.

show your face and buy it beer! hehe he.

Hi,

Yes, the step-up works fantastic for me..

I was more concerned with doing the following:

Wall socket -> Gralab digital 110v -> 3000 watt step up -> 220v grinder.

It's the adding of the Gralab to the chain I am wondering about..

Thanks!

well im uncertian if my understanding is correct but as long as you dont apply 220v to your 110v machine i believe you will be ok as the step up box should make 3000w available but the machine will only draw what it needs .. but PLEASE dont just take my word for it. I would hate to be wrong!

good luck
