Mazzer Robur doser timer question

Postby ChrisC on Thu Sep 15, 2011 11:38 am

Hi all,

Just a quick question -- when I last used a standard Robur with doser, I seem to remember it had an analog timer of sorts. By which I mean there was some kind of dial or something that you could turn to give you more or less grinding time, and then you would turn the power switch to start the motor and it would stop after a short period of time automatically, giving you roughly the dose you wanted. I remember that it wasn't a case of turning the power switch dial a certain amount, like a minute timer, but rather a separate adjustable dial or something, and then you'd just hit the power switch and it would stop after the time you'd set. No way to know in advance how much time you were grinding for with what setting, but after you got into range it was easy enough to increase or decrease dose a bit by adjusting the dial (or whatever it was). (I'm not talking about the auto-refill function that will refill the doser completely, of course.)

So my question is, do current Robur doser models still have this functionality?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Bump - does no one have an older Robur w/doser, or a newer one, who can tell me if there is a simple timer function?

Sounds like a doser full flap. Very common on commercial grinders. The power stays hot and a flap in the doser pushes a micro switch when the doser is full of coffee to turn the grinder off. If you are pulling shots every few seconds in a busy coffee shop they are not an issue. For home use, the first thing that gets modified is that doser flap gets cut off for grind per shot use.

Hi Dave,

Yeah, I know the feature you mean, and I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about a dial-like function, separate from the power switch, that is an adjustable timer, so that when you turn on the grinder using the power switch, it will stop after several seconds. If anyone used the Anfim Super Caimano before the digital timer was added for V2, it also had a timer like this, as documented here. I've talked to a former co-worker recently, and confirmed that I was not imagining the feature. As I seem to be unable to find evidence of this feature online in literature or pictures of the Robur doser model, I'm now wondering if this was an older feature that has since been removed, or if it was a modification that was done unbeknownst to me before the grinder was delivered to the shop I worked at.

This line of questioning is actually the result of my search for a conical doser with grinder and timer for a cafe I'm opening soon. I think I'll start another thread calling for suggestions on that front. In the meantime, if anyone can confirm whether they've ever seen this feature on a Robur w/doser and knows whether it is still a feature of current models, or if it was stock but was discontinued, or if it was likely an aftermarket mod, I'd love to settle this nagging question in my head. :-)

Thanks,
Chris
