Mazzer Mini with paperclip stuck in the grinding chamber

Postby Vad on Wed Mar 10, 2010 1:35 pm

Hello.
During the cleaning the exit chute, the grinder switched on and the metal paperclip (was straightened) got stuck inside. I opened it up, took away the top burr, and see the wire (paperclip) stuck between the wall and one of the three horns that push the coffee into the chute. I tried pulling the wire, but to no avail. I unscrewed the bolt, that is in the middle of the bottom burr, but could not lift it. Do you have any idea how to get the paperclip out?
Thank you for the prompt reply.

EDIT: do I have to follow this http://www.monkeyfaq.com/mazzer/index.html ? Bottom three pics.

EDIT 2: now I unscrewed everything, and do not have the long screws (the last pic on the above link) to "lift" the burr carrier. Are there any other ways of lifting it? Or do I have to find the long screws?

Yes. See Removing Super Jolly lower burr carrier and Warning about grinder burr / carrier removal for more details.

I have done this with a brush twice...quite annoying. See if you can work the paperclip out slowly without taking anything else apart. Watch that you don't break the parts it is stuck behind.

I have removed everything and now I just cannot lift that burr carrier. So I am waiting for the 3 mm diameter bolts to be delivered to me. The paperclip piece got stuck between the wall and the tooth. It is hanging from the both sides of the tooth/horn that throws the coffee into the chute. And the horn is "splitting" it in half, bit into the metal of the wire, and I can't rotate anything or move, it is stuck.

One of the lesser examples of why it is important to unplug electrical appliances before working on them.
All the coffee in Ethiopia won't make me a morning person.

Vad you can use the long ones holding the doser body, they're the same diameter IIRC

godlyone: Thanks a lot for the advice. The grinder is fixed now and working. Whew, such a holdup because of a mistake of not turning it off... I did not use the bolts that hold the doser, but will remember the tip for the future, if someone else will need that. I got delivered 3 cm long bolts from a friend, so that did the trick.

espressoed: Yes, I agree. At least this could serve as a reminder to other distracted individuals :)

To all: thank you again for your time and suggestions.
