Mazzer Mini: Entry-level prosumer level grinder

Postby seattleguy on Sat Dec 19, 2009 2:26 pm

There has been so many discussions and praise on this grinder due to so many accolades. However, in spite of all those merits, to some it is still considered an entry-level pro-consumer grinder when comparing to the titan-level grinders. Explains to why some upgrade to better grinders than the mini.

Do you agree past or current Mazzer Mini owners?

Mazzer is not entry level. I would consider the small and noisy conical grinders to be the entry level for "prosumer" espresso, starting at less than 1/2 the price of a Mazzer.

I think the point the original poster was trying to make was that since the Titan Grinder Project, many people have upgraded from the Mini to higher end grinders. A few years back though, the Mini was the ultimate home grinder it seemed. The results of the Titan Grinder project, however did show a noticeable improvement when going from a Mini to the Super Jolly and other higher end grinders. I myself recently upgraded to a Super Jolly from a Mini and I rarely use my Mini any longer. Overall, I do enjoy it more for various reasons and I think I have seen an improvement in the cup as well. However, I also had nice results with the Mini. I haven't had the time yet to do a blind repetitive taste test between the two, so I can't say for sure how much difference it has made, or if most of it is in my head. For those that have made the jump, is the difference mainly just subtle differences that only can be seen with a side-by-side cupping or are they more pronounced than that? I have read the results of the Titan grinder project several times, but although the numbers say the Mini got annihilated, when reading the notes about the comparisons, it seems more like it gets barely edged out on certain attributes in the cup.
