The no hopper idea was the ticket.
It just barely fits and it does not even take up any additional counter space!

Now it looks like I will have a PL53 for sale in a few days. It is one year old what is a fair asking price?

BTW, if you want a hopper, it's possible the short Mazzer Mini hopper might fit: http://www.wholelattelove.com/Mazzer/ma...hopper.cfm

I myself have a Mazzer Major and do as you do. Mine is the newer model which has a hopper collar with an interlock. It barely fits under the counter with the collar and I use the collar as a hopper - it will fit about 4 shots total in it.
