Mazzer Major three phase to single phase

Postby Rostik_KIEV on Mon Oct 18, 2010 8:15 am

Hello!
I have a possibility cheaply to buy Mazzer Major (200 euro), but a problem that it three-phase, 380V, V3, 650W.

I don't have possibility of three-phase connection.

The seller speaks:
- I will alter it under single-phase, 220V. I already did it, it is easy also Mazzer well worked.
Certainly, doesn't give guarantees. If it fails in a month, money not to return.
The price is so attractive and seductive that the thought on acquisition doesn't leave me.
As though you have arrived on my place?
My search has shown that this problem of version from three-phase in single-phase isn't trivial.
On the other hand I have found inexpensive devices which allow to connect three-phase engines to a single-phase network.

Where I can find the scheme electric basic Mazzer Major?

Thanks.

My guess would be that the stator is not the same. So it is not a trivial conversion.

By the way, 200€ for a major is not uncommon on ebay france...

You need an external frequency drive. There are phase converters available but the frequency drive is far more flexible. It will allow you to use 110V or 220V single phase and also allow the Hz to be adjusted

According to this thread, the Major's motor does not have an additional tap for single phase

There is no inexpensive way to convert a 3-phase motor (machine) to single phase.

AFAIK, there are only three choices
1. As Phaelon pointed out, you can buy a variable frequency drive that will convert your single phase power to a usable form for the grinder. VFDs tend to be rather expensive, although you may be able to find an affordable one on ebay.
2. Replace the grinder motor with a single phase one. This will likely cost more than option #1.
3. Pass on the grinder and keep looking for a single phase model.

Thanks, dear friends, for these answers.
The seller has informed that the grinder is modernized for the power supply 220В (one phase) and I can take away it.
Friends, I still need a wiring scheme what to understand an essence of wonderful engineering modernization of the major.
I promise to share the modernization scheme.

It's really tough to find a 220V 1p in/380V 3p out VFD.

I can confirm that the 380V Major can be successfully modified to run on 220V single phase as one of my friends having a modified Major.

The modification is a simple re-wiring and a change of the starter capacitor.

I will try to get the wiring details for you or at least a photo of the bottom of the grinder with all the wiring visible.
