Mazzer Major not feeding beans through - Page 2

I am now an officially self-acknowledged idiot. In my defense... I have changed burrs a dozen or more times on SJ's and never had an issue getting the grind dialed in. I run the grinders without beans in them, tighten until the burrs whine from touching, back off about 3 to 4 indents from the initial touching point, then add beans and finish dialing in.

That did not work for this Major and even when I backed it off a bit more it still didn't allow beans to go through.

Last night I decided to throw Duranium burrs into the SJ that is currently my daily home grinder and has been working just fine. I did my standard routine and when I added beans the result was identical to the Major. I backed it off a LOT and suddenly beans were going through. That MUST be the issue with the Major. Not sure why, but it appears that the Major burrs and Duranium burrs must require backing off the touching point by a lot more than the standard SJ Mazzer burrs do.

Very sorry to have troubled you all with a question that had such a ridiculously simple answer. My forehead is now sore form hitting it repeated with my palm and saying "DOH!"

How many notches did you have to back it off from the zero point to get it to work?
