Mazzer Doser Window Removal - Tips?

Postby samgiles on Thu Apr 16, 2009 3:55 am

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for removing the plastic window from a Mazzer doser. Today I bought a well used Major and I can't get that window to budge at all. I have an SJ and the window is tight but movable and the previous Mini one was easy to remove. I'd like to get it off somehow just to clean all the grime that's accumulated in between it and the doser housing. I guess that grime isn't helping but I think it's pretty tight anyway. Any advice will be gratefully received.
Sam.

I use "Greased Lightning" which is an orange oil based cleaner and degreaser. I spray it along the top and bottom edges of the plastic and let it sit for a while, then slide the plastic up with my fingers from the outside moving from window to window. As soon as there is a crack I then use a screwdriver to nudge it up mm by mm going window to window. Eventually it will be loose enough to slide up with your fingers.

Thanks Dan,
I'll find some comparable product here and have another go at it. Thanks a lot for the tip.

Greased Lightning is cheap and effective. I use it for all my major (no pun intended ;-) grinder cleaning. Soemtimes the window gets old enough and tight enough that it will break when being removed. Figure $13 to $20 plus shipping for a new window. Not cheap but not horrendous. Once it's nice and clean it's not so tough to get the new window installed.
