Mazzer bulk grinder burrs

Postby rindfest on Wed Dec 31, 2008 4:22 pm

I have a super jolly, with the bulk grinder/bag spout, ie doserless

reading through here, generally a bulk grinder [like a ditting/malk etc] produces a different grind than an espresso grinder, in that it has less fines. it seems this is from the "espresso" burrs having what has been described as a "fines" ring.

so, do mazzer make a different set of burrs, for when the SJ is used as a bulk grinder? I have searched but cant find any info. I did find different burrs iirc 33d 33m etc, but no description of what they were for.

thanks

I don't know. Could you post a good photo of the burrs in your Super Jolly? Flat burrs in grinders for espresso have distinct bean breaking surfaces as Jim described in Grinder burr types explained; I assume that's the main difference between Mazzer burrs with the same diameter, i.e., different cut angles and length for more/less aggressive grinding.

as I didnt buy the grinder new, I have no real idea what these burrs that were in it are. [the ones I have now are new mazzer 33d sj burrs]

edit what I do notice on these mystery sj burrs, is that the pattern is very uniform/repeated, more so than Dans picture.
