Mahlkonig Vario grinder not working - Page 2

The hopper is lined up with the notch on the grinder
As I turn the hopper I can hear the click of the safety switch being engaged - see pic.
I have held in the safety switch manually (without hopper) and it still won't grind

Is there another switch or something that I can hold - press - engage so I can rule out the hopper not being in correctly or a bypass to diagnose the problem further?

It did work on the first 2 occasions I was trying to set the grind level but then stopped
Thanks again

Hi
So you pushed in the part in the middle of the circle, which sticks out the farthest? You should here a little click when you push it in. You should also see this part move in when you push it. I just tried it with my Vario, when you push that in, the grinder should start, release it, and the grinder will stop.

The hopper is very hard to get to click at first, but it gets easier after you do it a few times.

This may be obvious, but did you try unplugging it for a minute or so, plug it back in, and try again?
Regardless, I would call up Customer Service, and register your problem.

I don't know about Mahlkonig, but Baratza has a very good customer service reputation, and they would normally send a new grinder to anyone who has a problem.

Yeah, I pushed it in as you said but mine still didn't work.
I get the feeling that the problem isn't the hopper engaging but either the switch itself or something else on the way to the motor. I'll call the customer help line on Monday

What was the outcome of the Customer Svc call? Did you get the Vario running? Curious minds want to know :D

If I were a betting man, I would say he got his grinder working. I too wish people who ask for advise would report back. Any one who responds to a request has taken a personal interest and really would like to know the outcome. I know do.

I get this from time to time. A slight smack to the side during countdown seems to remedy the problem.
