Does anyone else's K30 exhibit the same fork play?

Is that with the side screws fastened? Mine does not have any play once it is tighted up.

Hey! Nope, this is with the side screws moderately loose (as if you were adjusting the portafilter holder to fit a portafilter). When tightened, mine doesn't have play, unless I put some extra effort pulling it forward. If I do this, it will move a bit, and stay in the more-upward position. Is your holder completely rigid, even if you pull upwards on it?

Just tried. I can pull upward on the holder enough to start lifting the edge of the grinder off the counter and it still doesn't budge.

I was curious about your comment, and made a video of what I'm experiencing. I tried to demonstrate the tightness of the screws (i.e. they're as tight as they can go, to my understanding).

Josh, if I understand correctly, your portafilter holder does not exhibit any of the play/movement seen in the video?

I should note that mine will move back and forth, but only if the screws are loose. Torqued down, I too can lift the machine off of the counter w/o any lateral movement.

I know this is probably silly, but did you use a long-handled/wide-blade screwdriver to tighten the screws? If not, I would highly suggest doing so, otherwise you will not be able to apply enough torque. I know this because the first time I tightened mine I used a wide-blade stubby, which resulted in the same issue you are having.

Oh, goodness. I feel really dumb right now  . I used a larger (read: an actual appropriately sized tool for the job) screwdriver, and this holder isn't moving anywhere. Just for my sanity, it does take a bit of effort to make sure it's properly torqued, correct?

I guess I was also afraid of damaging the portafilter holder by tightening it too much (side note: is it possible to tighten this too far?).

Innumerable thanks.

Not certain, but i would guess you would strip the screw before you did any damage to the portafilter holder. These things are built like little brick sh*t houses

Everyone has those "Doh!" moments, and I'm glad my "Doh" moment was helpful to you (Remember, I made the same mistake you did  ).
