I kind of liked it better with the wood accents. The rest is more functional I guess, looks aren't everything. What interest me is how well it performs and at what price it will sell. Oh well. More work for Dave in the future.CrabRangoon wrote:Thank goodness too, I thought it looked like an unpolished concept with all those differing colors / materials. The one pictured here looks far closer to a production model than the other did IMO.

Looks like it's missing the secondary dial unless it's well hidden. Wasn't that kind of the point?

Found a second picture in the deep ends of the Internet:

It definitely seems like they removed the second dial. But I really like the updated design. WB (would buy).

That is a real disappointment. Unlike the wood-accents (that are looks/cosmetic) this seems to be ditching functionality and user-friendliness.The Dark One wrote:Found a second picture in the deep ends of the Internet:

Also, there is a lever to hit - that wasn't there on the previous model. Don't know what to make of that, less retention or the opposite - is it a fix that was already needed on the previous pre-production model but not there, or is it like the dial a step back to the normal EK43 and needed because of that?

Having owned grinders with more then one dial, I'm glad Mahlkonig ditched it. Never liked it, it usually doesn't work very well, and grinders with this solutions tend to have problem keeping the settings. So Thumps up for this decision !
Removing the wood and the red parts is a massive improvement, it looks more like a production model now then the previous version that looked like an ek43 that had been modded by a home user, and the dials defiantly look like an upgrade especially on the esthetic side.
I'm also pleased the bag-holder shaker thing has returned, this is essential to knock out some of the static grinds.
The only thing I'm not pleased about is the dial plate, it look a bit cheep for a grinder in this price range, but then that is also the case with the stock ek43 version, at least there seem to be a larger adjustment area on the dial then the standard version, I wonder if the next ek version is going to get this improvement down the line.

Found a picture from another angle. This one also shows a dosing tool.

I can see that Frank Terranova has had the chance to put his dosing tool on a Barista model, I wonder if He had tried it out as well. It defiantly looks sweet. Would love to have one of those.

By volume with different sized reducing collars I imagine. VL uses this method.
