FWIW. Because we have slick ceramic tile counter surface: I have a round 30mm thick piece of granite sitting atop the Able2 mat. And the Grist MG-1 sitting atop the granite. The granite will break from the Able2 mat on light roast beans: Vertigo Wote Konga is an automatic slip. The bottom of the granite slab is not polished, smooth but not polished...which I'm going to take care of soon. Then I think the interface between the ceramic tile, the Able2 mat, the granite slab & the Grist will be solid.

Slightly better but not a real breakthrough :-). It was worth to try. We have some other ideas still. Will share them here.

Bobbee, I just stuck the suction feet directly onto the anti-slip mat. Just as you would place the grinder directly onto a countertop surface but with the slipmat between. I used to fight the grinder a lot with light roasts and it would frequently come loose from the counter. That has not happened once since I got the Able 2.

How do you release the suction cup once you remove the cam?

Ok, originally I had one of our local granite shops fab me a 30mm thick disk of faux granite. He said it would allow the suction cups to adhere better than even granite. I believed.

But in the end it didn't work as promised so yesterday I found a couple inexpensive 12"x12"x3/8" white marble tiles and with a smear of Gorilla glue cemented the two tiles back to back so I have polished surfaces on both exposed sides.

With the Able2 Extreme mat, even though its only about 7"x7" or so, I can now grind even light roasts without the struggle. The Able2 mat sticks to the polished marble & ceramic tile counter like glue and the Grist MG-1 sticks to same like glue.

Problem solved.

Alright, so i will post my solution which almost similair! Also a piece of granite from a local shop. He made it 25x25cm en the stone plate which it came frome was 3cm thick. It weighs 5,6kg and the MG sits firmly on it. The top, back and sides of the stone are polished. He did that by hand for me. I've bought 4 sticky pads for mobile phones which you can use for the dashboard of your car. Thet are very cheap, 80 euro cents! They don't stick as much as the able2 mat but that isn't necessary because of the weight of the stone.

Some pictures :

Sawing the stone:

This was the stone without polished sides and back to try it out. [

This is with finishing:

A little movie. In fact this a very, very light roast! The grind setting for this particulair bean was 4,5 on the MG1!

I've used 4 of these sticky pads:

I don't know how you guys are pulling shots at that low a setting. Maybe something is up with the calibration on my grist? If I go below 9 on mine it will choke the machine.

The settings really do seem relative to the each grinder, my espresso operating range is between 3.5 and 6
