Stefano,
I am assuming you use fresh roasted coffee? (rested an appropriate # of days)

Stefano, et al..
Any update on the improved chute/flange? I have Macap M4D and it has significant clumps. I have tried a variety of roasts, including my own, at various roast levels.

Please let me know as I would like my grinder to work better (less clumping).

Thanks - Darren

Having installed the update on my M4D, I'd have to highly recommend you do it. There is one thing you might try before that though.

Remove the hopper and the plastic gear ring, remove the 2 screws holding the big button and display. Carefully set the display to the right.

Remove the single screw at the back holding the chute cover and remove the chute cover.

If your chute has a splitter that divides it into upper and lower chutes, proceed, otherwise button it back up. If it has a little fork thing pointing down you already have the new version.

Remove the 2 screws holding the chute in place and carefully pry out the chute. On mine it was really tight and it took a bit of careful prying and wiggling to get it out and back in. Remove the splitter, it just slides out the end.

Then put it back together without the splitter. The static might be worse, but the clumping will likely be almost gone.

Ira,

You mention " Having installed the update" in your post. Is there an actual new updated part to install, or did you simply remove parts like the remainder of your post states...

I, as well, have an M4D that I would love to reduce the grind retention on....I don't get too bad of clumping, but it holds a TON of old grinds in there....

There is a new part, it's a small bent piece of metal that fits under the screw that holds the chute cover in place. It cuts the inlet to the chute so coffee can only enter in the bottom half of the chute. It helps a bit, but it's not close to perfect.

I tried to get Macap to let me buy a few but was told it's a spare and you'd get it from a dealer. Perfect other than it will never break so there will never be a spare in the country. They really don't get it.

Ira: I just noticed your posts regarding the M4D, are these problems unresolved? I just ordered an M4D for a gift, it has not shipped yet and I can still cancel. Are these problems also occuring on the non-electronic version?
Thanks, KDM

Well, it's better since the update and maybe this is as good as home grinders get, but there are a lot of grounds retained in the chute still.

From the pictures it seems the chute would be accessable with a brush and a little tapping. I have a small vacuum under my grinder table which I use, after the brush, on the chute of my K30 Vario when I'm done with it for the day. Seems to do the job.
