Macap M4 doser cleaning & disassembly

Postby CTurner on Tue May 31, 2011 7:50 am

I'm grateful to the Macap burr cleaning thread where it is explained that it is <not> possible to pull out the lower burrs as they are attached to the motor pole. I'm comfortable with the cleaning I did now, scraping around the edges and vacuuming.

But I need advice about the doser. How do you remove the blade mechanism? I removed the stop nut hidden under the pole plastic top, but no amount of wiggling of jostling helped me to remove the upper five-blade part or the metal partial cover over the outer lower chute. I was forced to use q-tips and scrape around the edges between blades, so I'm not sure how clean the bottom of the doser actually is.

PS--I don't want to remove the lower doser vane: I saw a thread on that. I just want to disassemble with the doser still attached to the main body, to the point where the floor of the doser is relatively open for cleaning.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

I guess I'm confused. You take the plastic adjustment knob off by just pulling up. Underneath that, you'll need to remove the stop pin at the top of the stud, then remove the nut that's on the stud. From there, the vanes, spring and metal cover of exit chute should just pull right off. There's nothing really to keep it there. You said you've removed the nut already so I honestly don't know what's keeping it from coming off. If you push down on the vanes can you feel the spring or does it not move at all? The only thing I can think of is if perhaps the spring is damaged and is binding up on the threads of the stud?

You're describing exactly what I'm encountering: pulling straight up, the vanes are almost like they are locked on. I can push down on the spring, and did so thinking that might involve helping a release, but no dice. There is no "up" and off possible. I even tried using some pliers to pull it straight up, but was afraid to hold onto the metal piece too hard, scarring the metal.

Do the stud threads engage the plastic vane that is on top, is there any twisting or screwing that should be done to remove the plastic vanes and the small metal plate?

As I say, I just want to remove the topmost parts and am not interested in removing the vanes that actually sweep the doser bottom.

Thanks for the look.

Again, I'm really stumped here. There isn't really anything to keep it from coming off. The nut holds the vanes down and puts tension in the spring. There's not real trick to it and you certainly don't need to pull up with plyers. I have a video I made of dissasembling the doser at home. I'll check it tonight after work to see if i"m missing something (no longer have the grinder for reference). It's been a while since I took one apart, but isn't there a washer between the nut and the vane assembly? Did you remove the washer too? It could be binding up when you're trying to lift the vanes up.

No, the the vanes don't screw onto the stud.

BTW, as I recall, the whole vane assebly comes out in one piece not a top and bottom as you're thinking.

Have you removed the perspex part of the hopper yet? There is a small metal tab on the exit chute cover that sits between the metal and perspex parts of the doser which will prevent it from being removed unless the perspex is removed. Hope this helps,
