Macap bean hopper is too tall/big any options

Postby Lonny on Sun Dec 05, 2010 9:00 pm

Hi Folks

I've got somewhat of a problem on my hands. I recently purchased a macap M7D grinder (pictured below). I had to put it away from the mini vivaldi that I also just recently got. The reason is it wouldn't fit under my cabinet, I did know this when I got it. To me it doesn't look bad at all where it's at, but to the wife, it does. As you can see in the photo the bean hopper is covering some of her stuff up on the wall, and I think this is the main problem for her. The bottom of the bean hopper that slides down in the throat is approximately 2 5/8". Does anyone know if the smaller macap M4 or of another bean hopper that is shorter with close to the 2 5/8" OD. I did get a very small hopper from where I bought it, it was thrown in with the deal but the diameter of that one is 2 1/4" OD. Any ideas?

You could cut it down to size or fashion your own. I searched on "hopper" (title only) and found quite a few related threads (e.g., Beautifying the Jerry-rigged Hopper; see forum search tips for other suggestions).

Thanks Dan. BTW..... This is off topic but you happen to live in the same town as a very well respected and highly regarded person in the watch repair business. Very good friend. His name is Jack Alexyon. I hope it was alright to post that, if not please delete. Anyhow, thanks again.

Best,
Lonny

Hi Chris,

I won't be able to post anymore pictures till tomorrow. What's the status of yours? Are you still waiting for it to come in?

They arrived last week, and it was just charged on my Visa today, so I assume it will be shipped tomorrow. Should be here in a week or so :)

Lonny, the Macap 4 has an outer diameter of 2.25" so that is no soap. Sorry.

Unless you like keeping an amount of beans in the hopper(which idk if you do, just saying), you could go hopperless.

I only used the hopper on my now gone MXKR for the first month or so, then I went back to single dosing. I used a little glass bowl to weigh out my beans, and would simply place that over the opening to the burrs. Never had any issues. Very much the same thing that people do with their Mazzers, just that the throat on the Macap is larger then a tamper(which is what many people place on their Minis/SuperJollys)
