Yes, although with the cover and fitted inner plug, you can shake the Shaker more vigorously on multiple axes. The question does remain on how much that makes a difference over 1 axis shaking.FotonDrv wrote:Then that would be the same with the Tumbler and the Shakers wouldn't it?
PS Someone just read me posting this over my shoulder and called me a freak. only you guys understand!

I wonder if the blind shaker would help grinders that don't benefit from WDT (such as the Versalab).
While such grinders may have distribution issues (e.g. donut shaped distributions) - I am not sure the blind shaker won't need basket grooming as well...

How large is the opening on the bottom of the blind shaker? One thing that bugs me about the blind tumbler is the opening at the bottom is pretty small, even for a small basket. So the grounds end up piled up with an empty ring around it. Then I have to level the grounds with my finger because a horizontal tap will cause the piled up grounds to fall out of the basket. It'd be nice if the opening of the blind shaker was close to the edge of the 58mm basket to minimize the piled up/empty ring effect. I'd prefer to have a routine where I don't have to level the grounds with my finger, just with a few horizontal taps before I tamp.

I'll try to remember to measure it when I get home later tonight. Feel free to nudge me if you don't see a reply by 9PM PST.

Thanks for the replies Tom and Shawn. It looks like maybe 1-2mm gap based on the thickness of the ridge. That's not bad, probably something a few taps could probably even out?

Yeah, it should even out without too much hassle.
I've only used it a couple times so far and it seems static makes it messier than I would have liked so I started using it with a wood dosing funnel. This elevates it a bit so I'm not getting the defined ridges in the puck anymore.
Still trying to decide if its worth it over just a pouring pitcher and dosing funnel.

Is there static even if RDT is used in grinding?

I own an original style hg1. The new tumbler is a great improvement . I'm able to grind 60 grams for a Chemex without overflow , the cover is handy as I pass it to my pour over station. I previously ground into a cup for pour overs. After 4 years of wisking, the shake will take some getting use to. Grind static is no different from the origional tumbler. Another quality product from LW, I was hoping this purchase would take the edge off from pulling the trigger on the eg1...
