Let's see... first you take the chicken over, leaving the dog with the grain, and then you come back for the grain...
You take the mini *and* some beans with you, and use the mini to grind the beans while you are there, and then bring it back.

Ground coffee has a life expectancy of around a minute. You would be better off grinding fresh on the other grinder, or take the Mini with you. They are built like tanks, a trip in the car will not do any harm.

I hear you. When I go camping, I don't have the option of bringing along a Mazzer Mini. Fresh beans from a cheap hand grinder will taste better than preground that's sat around for a day or two. Espressopart's Go Greener Coffee Travel Kit is on my list for next season.

Dan, if/when you get the go greener kit, I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the quality of the grinder. If you have a chance, could you say if it meet your minimum standards for espresso? It is working for me but I have nothing else to compare it to.

Several recent trips when I've had four or five nights away - really have me disappointed in what I can find when I travel.

I'm thinking that my Olympia Cremina would handle car travel pretty well.

But no way I'm gonna try to hump the Super Jolly.

I'm assuming that even some sort of vacuum packing won't work for espresso grounds? Even for four or five days?

Next best option, a hand grinder?

Anybody have any other suggestions or comments to add towards a solution to best way to grind for travel?

And/or comments as to what might be the better hand grinders currently available?

I've got say I prefer the look of the Porlex grinder from Orphan Espresso.

As for the machine I'm struggling with this: maybe the new Bacchi stovetop from Italy for stays in rented holiday accommodation or when camping, which looks encouraging, and/or a Handpresso dome or Aeropress for hotels etc. with just kettles....

I haven't bit the bullet yet. I do have a great old Lehnartz hand grinder I got from orphan, but I love the thing dearly and couldn't bear to drag it around in motorbike panniers/suitcases etc.
