Hi

I have just bought my first grinder, a La Pavoni Zip - http://www.lapavoni.com/model.asp?id=142 although its re badged to a BEZZERA.

Got a great deal on ebay for it.

Thought it was working fine but have since noticed that when I pull the handle to dispense coffee, the star inside turns but then returns back to the same position instead of always rotating, as if it were actually part of the handle.

I found this video of what its meant to do
I was hoping somebody on here might have some experience with this grinder and issue.

Any help is really appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Tim

Usually this is a broken clip spring in the doser, in my experience. I know for the Ascaso/Innova grinders I used to have it was a $3 part that needed replaced every few months.

All the springs seem to be there

I took it all apart and cleaned out all the gunk, re-greased and put back together, but still same issue, its like something is missing to keep it from returning with the handle, but I cant see what, and looking at the parts list for this model there actually isn't anything missing, wierd :?

I was having the same issue with my Zip for several years, and got in the habit of leaving the doser uncovered, and giving the dosing assy a little helping nudge; but this eventually got old, so I took it apart when I replaced the burrs recently and finally got it working properly. At first, when I reassembled the doser after cleaning, the doser vanes stuck on the advance stroke, and no matter what I did, including trying to shim up the shoulder on the centre shaft - it refused to work smoothly. Then after a bit of carelessness in the vice (don't get the lower Bottom Star assy jammed up into the Middle Star (p/n 50279)) I broke one of the arms of the Lower assy. Curses! Having just received an order from Cafe Parts for the replacement burrs, I logged back on, and ordered the replacement Bottom Star (p/n 50280) which showed up a few days later. What do ya know, it fixed the advance problem. Checking the shaft on the old star assy, it looked fine, and show any apparent clearance issues, but obviously it was sticking.

Are you referring to the flat metal springs? Sheet Spring 89 Mm p/n 73035
I've always found it odd that these rely on the flats of the nut (55 in the diagram) to locate the doser; and have usually applied a slight negative bend to them before reassembling the doser.

This might be something for a new thread, but has anyone figured out a good way to make this grinder stepless? I thought about the method outlined on Paul Pratt's site (http://www.espresso-restorations.com/Macap.html) since the Macap upper burr carrier looks similar to the EB - although I have noticed the burr carrier is subject to movement, easiest to see if one exerts off-camber pressure when the burrs are just about touching. Seems like a single set screw/bolt would aggravate this.

Thanks! I just got this in today from ebay and it was advertised as working :)

I sanded down part number 46 (doser lever) and the shaft on the star wheel with some 320 grit just to get them shiny again. It looked like they tried to replace the springs to fix it as they were shiny new. Everything else was all gunked up with grease and coffee and I think that eventually jammed it up and made a mess of the shaft.

I cleaned it all up and then put some food grade grease on it and it seems to be good to go again. We'll see if it stays working, otherwise for 20 bucks I'll get a new star!

Thanks so much for the diagram! I looked all over for that today without success :(
