La Cimbali Jr. grinder owners...is this louder than normal? [video]

Grinders are one of the keys to exceptional espresso. Discuss them here.

Can any La Cimbali Jr. grinder owners tell me if this is louder than normal? It sounds very loud to my ears especially compared to my SJ. This is a near new grinder so maybe I'm just not used to it.

I've asked a couple members here about this and its hard to communicate it over email so I have a video of the Jr. followed by a Mazzer SJ for comparison. Both are running empty.

I will add that after watching and listening to the video, the noise is quite a bit louder in person than in the video. Let me know what you think, thanks.

p.s. The Jr. also torques to the right when turned on, normal?

Sounds about right to me, especially when the Cimbali Junior is empty. It will also torque to the right as you showed if the countertop is slick. My verdict: Working as designed.

This sounds about right to me. The Junior is quite noisy when empty (has a steel case instead of the cast case), but isn't too bad with beans in it. I haven't noticed the movement, but as the previous post said may depend on the surface.

Sounds spot-on to me as well. As far as the torque-shift, that's also exactly what mine did. I think it's kinda cool to have a grinder that's that powerful.

What is also encouraging to me after seeing your video is that yours seems to be good from a burr-alignment issue. My Junior (which I got rid of for a Max Hybrid) had a lower-burr alignment issue, and the whole body of the ginder would wobble around after power was turned off and the burr was winding down.

Have you ground coffee with it yet? I'd be interested in your user-report comparing it to your Mazzer.

Thanks to all for the info as I wasn't familiar with this grinder, although I know alot of people here use one and love it.

No wobble here, it is powerful and rock solid! I did test Jr. and am very impressed with its grinding capability. It grinds very fast and it looks to be very consistent in the grind as well, on par with the SJ IMHO. Alas it is only visiting, not a member of the family. One thing I do like about Jr. is it does fit under my counter with the hopper, something the SJ can't do, although I grind by the shot so it isn't that big a deal in my case.
