Still fascinated. Bellataiwan is going to get back to me about shipping out the feima 610n. Is rakuten the best way to get a r-220 or just Amazon us?

Thanks Shenrei! Very informative. As much as I'd like a Royal (the flavor profile seems right up my alley), it's a bit out of my price range KNC it is! I suppose down the road there's always upgrade potential. Coming from a Bodum Bistro (pretty terrible) I'm sure the Kalita is a large upgrade in itself.

Thanks to all for the many careful comparisons and comments here. Using my espresso grinders for Kalita Wave pour-over has been a huge headache, with too many disappointments in the cup. Looks like I'll be picking up an R-220 as soon as Coffee Sakura gets them in. Cheers!

Very interested to hear impressions of the 610N once they arrive! Also interested to hear shipping options, ripvanmd.
I should stay out of this thread, starting to want ghost teeth burrs

They should be having some stock sometime in the middle of this month but they don't get very many. I'd recommend a step-down converter (convert 120v to 100v) as well. It'll work without one but it's better for the motor. They're around $25 on Amazon.borisblank wrote:Thanks to all for the many careful comparisons and comments here. Can anyone confirm if the Kalita burrs are machined or cast? I stumbled on some pictures of the Kitchenaid burrs and they look awfully similar.

Wanted to post some initial impressions of the KNC. Definitely impressed in comparison to the lowly Bodum Bistro. I always found my Bodum Bistro to make brews that were too "aggressive", i.e. too sharp and acidic (probably due to the consistency of the grind). KNC has seemingly alleviated these problems.
Using an Ethiopia Yirgacheffe 1/14 ratio in a V60, initial flavors were delicate but separated. Brightness and slight acid was highlighted, following a silky floral finish that lingered slightly. Agree with Shenrei that the profile is "transparent", although I was pleased that the cup was not astringent. One surprise I found was that the mouthfeel did have a pleasant, refreshing smoothness to it, although this may be attributed to this particular batch of beans. Overall the cup was very tea like.

That refreshing smoothness has been present with all of the City+ roasts I've tried so far, albeit at the cost of some body.

I'll keep checking as well, but if someone would be so kind as to update the thread when more R-220s are available at Sakura, I'd appreciate it.

Been busy dialing in both the Kalita Nice Cut and the Fuji Royal for the past couple of hours for the V60 as I'm making over 100 cups for a party tomorrow.
Both produced good cups and I'm undecided as to which grinder I'll be bringing. But for anyone needing starting points:
Fuji R220 V60
Dial: 2.5
26g coffee, 420mL water @ 96C (kettle temp)
Bloom 50g for 30s
Drawdown ends around 2:40-2:50
Kalita Nice Cut
Dial: 3
26g coffee, 420mL water @ 96C (kettle temp)
Bloom 50g for 30s
Drawdown ends around 2:40-2:50
