I use a space of .400" between the basket rim and the top of the puck and have made my tampers to match that headspace. Denis has tampers that match that so the top of the tamper is flush with the top of the basket rim.uscmatt99 wrote: He then informed me that I was probably overdosing the VST basket, as the L1 has less room between the shower screen and coffee bed than other machines, so I was probably cracking the puck and getting horrible channeling, which sounds about right.
This tamper is sitting a bit low in the basket and the dose should be flush for the method I use.
The tampers that Denis makes are beautiful!
Denis on left mine on right; mine is not pretty but it works.

Matt, also consider replacing the Londinium screen with an IMS Precision screen, which will give you a few extra millimeters of headroom. 18g is really pushing it, though, on a Londinium 1. I think the recommended dose is more around 15.4g.

Yes, the IMS, or better the Cafelat/IMS screen(no dead spot) is much better and will give you 16g easily in the stock Londinium Double basket.
If you want larger doses go to VST or IMS baskets that have been discussed in the many Londinium Threads.

I dose 18 g as constant: VST 18 g basket, IMS 200 micron screen.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Levtamp will be ordered when Denis does his next run. The OEM Londinium tamper is fine with their basket, but fits a bit loose in the VST basket. I'll also have to get one of those replacement screens. Just to be sure, are you referring to the "IMS Competition 200 IM E61 screen lever groups" as advertised on the Cafelat site?

This is what I am using, although I prefer the harder PF/Group gasket that comes OEM w/Londinium.

It appears that the one to which you are referring is the same.

Well I might as well order the kit, and swap out the gaskets and screen next time I do some maintenance. I'm getting a bit of juddering after releasing the lever which I think means it could use a re-lube. Sorry to derail the thread everyone! Back to the goodness of Kafatek

The wait is over, its on my counter and all i can say is WOW!
From box to counter, 18g of Honduras Capucas (my well known coffee) in 17.5g out, a few light taps and taping the magnetic chute got me to 18g.
First shoot, no RDT, just WDT, almost 0 static.
Then tried Caffe Lusso blend, later on i actually had to coarser the grind a bit, because the very first shoot (still shipped out pre-set) got me to this:
Amazing unpacking experience. Denis got me the TiN coated or brass machined (not sure what it is) collar screw to match my TiN burrs selection, which is a nice touch as well.
I switched to old style forks which i am really grateful that Denis provided as well. The new style forks was not a good fit for my ultra fat naked PF, was almost dumping grinds on the very edge of dosing funnel.
It did feel kind of special drinking coffee that was roasted a week ago in the US which is 5500 miles away , quite dark roast for my taste but still tasted good.
Made about 5-6 shoots, not one was a miss in a mile and all tasted nothing like i have ever experienced with my major or k30 (i know its conical, but still). The layers, the depth the aftertaste, oh wow, blown away. 0 static with three different types of coffee and the burrs are far from being broken in, cannot really imagine what will follow after few kilograms, i am guessing even better shoots

That's really awesome that Denis provided the old style fork as well! The new fork causes some grinds to land on the funnel rim for me as well. I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle of replacingGaius wrote: I switched to old style forks which i am really grateful that Denis provided as well. It is literally done in less than a minute. The new style forks works with original duetto PF quite good, but with naked like you mentioned some grinds lands on the funnel rim and eventually on the counter and i had to switch immediately as this was my main argument for my wife and explanation of yet another grinder
