Is anybody single dosing with a Mazzer Robur? - Page 4

Just remove it! That's part of the one of the automatic dosing microswitches that's 1000% useless for a home user or any self-respecting, coffee-respecting business establishment. Its removal is trivial, though it requires laying the grinder on its side and taking the bottom off, unless you want to just clip the wires, in which case, you just need to pull the doser. It's a really trivial mod that's covered in an FAQ Thread.

My grinder has that gizmo removed (it was trivial)

Particularly for you, since I did it 'for' you and it came in a separate bag with your grinder. :P

Boy, circle the wagons when these guys tell you it's trivial. I have a fairly extensive tool collection, but no tool small enough to reach under the micro switch to remove the tiny nut holding the doser. Nothing at the local hardware store or Radio Shack either.

If I sell my Robur, it will come with the micro switch in a bag as well, but there will be more pieces [broken] in the bag.

OOoooo Busted.
But I did do the same conversion on two other grinders (a Major and a Rancilio MD80-AT)

A picture would help us understand what you're talking about better, but I had no such issues with either the Mazzer or the Rancilio removing the autofill switch in the doser.

OTOH, the Rancilio had a little relay logic circuit attached to the doser lever that had to removed from the power circuit (bypassed). I was able to download schematics for the manual and the auto version that made the conversion easier (but that part was not trivial)

When the micro-switch was attached, the nut was directly underneath.
The doser counter micro-switch was attached to the same wiring harness, so I pulled it as well.

When I did this on the Major, I removed the doser and the bottom plate.
There is a great HB thread with pictures and instructions: CLICK THIS

I guess "trivial" is defined differently for different people 8)

The pathway between the burrs and the doser retains more coffee in my Robur than my Super Jolly and is a PITA to clear. For me, this is too much work for the occasional shot.

With the micro-switch ectomy mod, cleaning this machine is no longer a PITA. If you're willing to do the mod, single dosing with a Robur makes sense.

I've just spent a week experimenting with singe-dosing on my Elektra Nino as well as on my Super Jolly.

In both cases the taste profile and mouthfeel was superior when not single-dosing, all of which is leaving me somewhat confused. The difference on the Nino was more dramatic than on the Super Jolly, which could be a conical characteristic. I've posted the whole shebang in a separate thread, here: what-does-single-dosing-lose-t12652.html#p149182. I was not expecting such big differences considering the popularity of single-dosing.

Have any of single-dosing a Robur done a direct comparison?

Cheers
