OTOH, if any of you are looking for a good home for one of the children without a box or drawer (mechanical guts only), I'm feeling the same way about my two 'kids'. I want an espresso mechanism to try out in a very compact camp grinder set-up, but can't bring myself to use anything from my decades old grinders, and cant bring myself to buy a new on just to 'decant' it, either.
I guess I'm looking for a disabled orphan to rehabilitate! ; >

Interesting Jack
I have a 1600 that is identical but does not have the "Mokka" on the label. Jean Christophe has a 1600 in his collection that doesn't have the mokka on it either. Both yours and mine have the black knob where his is silver. So many little differences. I wonder if our "1600" burrs have the same cut pattern?

I have 5 original condition hand grinders

Image

My Pe De Dienes is the largest by a country mile
Please forgive me as I don't know the model #

The others are
Trosser knee mill

A little Italian beauty
Small and dainty grinder
Not sure if the label is MG or BG
The fine print on the label says [hence why I believe it to be MG]
[Machina Acciato Garantito]

Kym Grinder in as new condition

Zassenhaus grinder in need of a referb

I guess that KYM is 50-60's but just a guess. Its very nice. The angled arm and label are newer KYM. Dienes also switched to an angled arm in the later year. Its lovely. The rubber feet really come in handy too. How does it work? I suppose it has a 5-pointed star burr? All the KYM's I've had are.

The older 1600 Dienes also has a 5-star burr, but he the newer ones have 6. Don't know if it makes a difference. Anyway, this one just goes fine enough for the manual lever, with commercial Italian beans. With a lighter roast of fresh beans it would be plenty fine. I suppose also with the spring lever - maybe I'll switch it over to PonteVecchio duty.

I can't decide which I love more. If it was just about the label it wouldn't matter much. But these grinders are so capable of making great espresso. There's something magical to me about making espresso with such a piece of fine craftmanship. I sometimes imagine the maker giving the box or the burrs a final polish, getting everything aligned and ready to leave the factory. Of course, it can be just as exciting using a new, well-made piece of equipment, like that Bezzerra 1-group we've been discussing over on the lever forum....

Are you using them all? How are they working? And the one in the middle on the first photo...?

It has a 5 star burr on it and is in new condition apart from a few test grinds

This one has a 6 star burr on it
It also has a slightly different label to your photos
Stag profile is like the right one but is off white in colour
Also the Pe De writing is also off white in colour

Its a large grinder the timber box is four and a half inches square
