Grind setting when cleaning burrs with Grindz and/or rice

Postby gbastiani on Sat Oct 09, 2010 8:52 pm

When using white rice "Minute Rice", do you leave the setting that you use to grind your beans when cleaning with the rice and or Grindz. Then remove the top burr and carrier and clean the burrs with a small brushes to clean between the teeth on the burrs. Which is better or are they about the same. Sorry to ask if this has been posted before just that this is my first grinder and don't want to wreck it.

Leave the grind setting where it is. As to which is better, rice or disassembly. Disassembly will always get it cleaner but is more difficult. You also run the risk of cross threading the upper burr carrier when you put it back together. That is not hard to avoid, but if you are impatient the fine threads will cross. You also have to make sure the threads are free of coffee residue or they will bind up. I only take the burrs out about once a year for a detailed cleaning.
