Getting started with the Versalab M3 grinder - Page 3

After installing the toothed belt kit, my M3 grinder works well. It's not as beautiful as before, tho.

According to versalab, it requires the right torque to fasten some specific bolts and it's 100 lb-in for the pulley and 200 lb-in for the top plate. I've bought a torque wrench to have the bearings replaced so it's not a problem for me. Honestly I don't even know my wrench is accurate or not.

There can't be very many Versalabs out there, they build six at a time, and it has been around for four years now. Mine doesn't need it, though. - Dennis

Actually Dr.Bean came up with this kit about only five months ago. There must be more than ten M3 grinders in Taiwan and most of us had belt slipping problem. It screamed like hell.

By the way, I'm one of the earliest owner and versalab provided the new bearings, a shim of newer version, and an instruction for me long ago, but I didn't have it replaced until recently. The reason why it took me so long is that I've bought a Macap MXK after the lower bearing of my M3 was significantly worn. A MXK is good enough, so is a M3 that works.

luthier, Thank you for your input. It is good to know the torque of the different bolts.
There are three owners in the US (2 plus myself) waiting to purchase Dr Beans' pulleys.
So far, my grinder is working fine, but it is only 5 months old. I had my friend bring over a dial indicator to check for runout on the driveshaft. Mine checked at .005" the maximun allowed, but good.
It is interesting how DrBean changed the static and the moving wipers. - Dennis
