It isn't.

It's not available in 110V(120V). I bought a 120V / 100V converter for $35 on Amazon. It would probably run fine on 120V, but I didn't want to take the chance. I suppose you could use a 100' extension cord and the voltage drop would do the trick :)

It's hard to believe that with all the interest Bunnzilla conversions for home use, that a grinder like this has not come across the pond. It is a much more kitchen friendly size and whisper quiet.

The horizontal motor/burr head configuration is ideal for extended use with big air vents in between to isolate the motor heat from the coffee. I suppose putting the burrs on top of the motor yields a smaller footprint, but at what cost?

It is if you get one from the official distributor in Taiwan.
Having said that I have been running two 100v R-220s, one with a ghost burr, another a flat, for quite a few years on 110v with no problem so far. Fingers crossed
Ideally you should be feeding 100v machine with the right juice, but I figured the 10 vault difference probably would not matter.

Intersting! How would you say the 220 compares taste wise to the 825? Aren't they basically the same burrs.
I drink two shots before I drink two shots, then I drink two more....

I would guess it does not have the approvals needed for sales into the US home market so it can't be brought in without incurring a significant amount of liability.

Agreed, but the Japanese have exporting stuff to the US down to a science. And considering this grinder ticks a lot of the boxes we look for in a brew grinder - large burrs, speedy grind, low retention, quiet operation and all with a small footprint, it seems strange that they haven't taken the leap.

I purchased it from Rakuten. It was $444 shipped. Amazon US has it for $500ish (3 week delivery) and eBay for $650. EMS delivered mine to NJ in a week.

It's $500, maybe $600 or $700 after certification and liability insurance plus the importers cut. Might not see much of a market at that price point.

It's not actually sold by Amazon, just an Amazon marketplace vendor, same as eBay. Amazon does not check things being sold in the marketplace for approvals or anything else unless there are complaints.

Rakuten is selling them for $350ish http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/tel-j/item/r220-bk/. Shipping would be a lot less if it was imported en mass. I'm thinking they could sell it for under $500 and make a buck. It really wouldn't have any competition.
