I was having a severe case of upgrade-itis about my grinder and decided to install a set of Duranium burrs before I went to a 83mm flat machine. Given their hardness being made out of Titanium alloy, I decided to forego seasoning.

These burrs have been a pleasant surprise - I don't have any quantitative analysis to support before and after. But the qualitative side is extremely positive. My wife (who doesn't know the burrs have been changed in our blind test team approach) has been asking what has changed to make such a great cup. I was getting very good shots with the exact same dosing (18.8 g). Recently, I've found more chocolate tones by reducing the dose to 18.3g.

Net, we concur with Dan's observation about Duranium burrs made during the Titan Grinder project. And, it cured my interest in upgrading the grinder.

I know this is an odd question, but what was the perceived weight difference between the old burrs and the new burrs?

The Duraniums definitely weighed less as I recall. I got them from espressocare.com - they shipped straight away, so I'd think it would be easy for them to weigh the stock Mazzer and Duraniums since they stock both and I presume they have a scale.

I've been putting off getting a set for way too long so after reading this thread yesterday I ordered from espressocare.

They should be here Friday.

Thx for posting. It's got me thinking. I've been fending off upgraditis as well.

I posted some pictures of how my Mazzer burrs were mounted in the machine when I did my upgrade. Would be curious to see what yours look like. But, overall, very easy to install.

I was slightly appalled at quantity of hidden grinds within the machine. I used a monster vacuum to clean it - I had imagined this beast was capable of sucking the paint off the machine. Wrong. There were grounds under the burr.

Typically, my wife and I give our views about the morning cup - "it's good for me, is it good for you?" We find ourselves frequently coming back to the point that the tiniest things in this hobby make an astounding difference. We've decided that we don't care if these burrs are placebo or really do what we perceive. All we know is it's dramatically better for both of us - we will be curious to see what you think.

Where can one purchase these in the US? I can't find a dealer that sells them.. maybe I'm just not searching enough.

I did a search for "duranium" on eBay and found a bunch of iPhone cases. Would one of those work?
