So we've accounted for Doge 003, 004 and 005, all with the same single capacitor. I think we're close to a solution to hopperless use. Although I'm glady back to single dosing for an espresso review. My Doge is paired with a Conti Prestina with PID and I don't feel any upgradeitis.

Here's a good shot of the 2nd capacitor connected to the primary one using a 2 blade yellow connector:

Thanks, Mark. So those capacitors both reside on the bottom plate and one links to the other, which links to the motor? Are you able to show us the connection to the motor and the color coding of that?

Yes, both caps were silicone glued to the bottom plate once upon a time. The capacitor marked 60 has a red wire running to the motor and a white one going to the power switch. The other 2 blades connect to the 2nd capacitor.

Thank you, Mark. Now we've got the U.S. wiring documented.

It was my pleasure, Gary. Accessing those capacitors is really easy so long as you can lift this beast of a grinder.

My grinder seized up twice tonight while single dosing. I think my heart skipped a beat.

I had no idea that I was still conducting tests. :|

A bit of hot glue-gun action to re-attach those 2 capacitors to the Doge bottom plate makes a world of difference in quieting the operation of this grinder. I'm back to stealth grinding now that I'm no longer able to rouse my neighbors in the morning with Doge use.

I was wondering what the solution for this ended up being?
My Doge from around the same time has started acting up.

On hard beans (lighter roasts) it will not grind, and gets 'bogged down' (think of a lawn mower going over a thick section of grass). The motor slows and sometimes (most of the time on light roasts) binds and stops (like there isn't enough torque).

Just because it was 10$, I have ordered a new capacitor, but I am thinking I may need two, given the discussion here.
Any thoughts on how your issue was resolved with the Conical burr set?

Some photo's of the inside of mine.

@IanB22, welcome to the conversation, but sorry you're having problems with your Doge. I noted in your profile that you've got an 83mm flat burr Doge - not the Doge Conico that the rest of us are dealing with. (I also noticed you're in Boston - I live in Arlington!)

From your photos, your capacitor and motor are both much less powerful than the ones in the Conico, so it's really a different machine.

I don't know that any of us have actually solved our problems. @LaMarzooka's Doge already has two capacitors, and he still had stalling. @drgary might get a second capacitor added by a local motor shop, but I don't think he has yet. As for me, 1st Line offered to experiment with my Doge and add another capacitor, but I would have to pay for shipping and parts, with no guarantee of success.

Because shipping alone, with adequate packaging and insurance, would run me close to $200 roundtrip, I was hoping someone else would be the guinea pig before I throw more money into this grinder. In the meantime, I'm still successfully single-dosing every day. I am looking with interest at both the Baratza Sette and the Kafatek Monolith, and waiting for more user reports.
