Faema MPN - how to remove burr carrier?

Postby fergusstew on Wed Jun 10, 2009 11:21 am

Hi,

I'm rebuilding a Faema MPN, about 1995 vintage.

I'm stuck. I can't figure out how to separate the lower burr carrier (gold-colored parts in attached photo) from the motor shaft.

I've seen the exploded parts diagram on this forum, and it looks like the gold colored stubby shaft with a helix on it should come off separately, and then the burr carrier, but how?

Thanks for helping me!

Fergus.

Assuming it's pressed on a tapered shaft like the Mazzers, this may work:

That's the way I do it to. Tighten slowly and evenly

I looked at my MPN. I have not dissembled mine that far. There are two opposed flats on the shaft above the helix. I would think that these would allow the use of a close fitting wrench to turn the helix section as a nut. That nut may hold the lower burr carrier to the motor shaft.
While you have it apart, Here are a couple of threads here on handy modifications of the MPN to make it easier to use and clean.

Hi,

Thanks for the help, it worked! There are flats on the brass shaft, and it unscrewed from the main shaft. It's a left hand thread. Then the burr carrier just came off. Here's a photo of how I did it.
