Faema MPN Doserless Conversion

Postby mikekarr on Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:52 pm

Hey all, I'm looking for some advice about converting my free to me Faema MPN to a doserless set up. The doser was apparently destroyed at some point, so it's not there to start from. I made a working funnel out of a chopped soda bottle, but static is out of this world so I need to take a step back and find a better mousetrap.

Has anyone attempted this on this grinder before? Anything I can do for static alleviation?

Did you figure anything better out? I'm looking at one of these, and I want to remove the doser on it.

I haven't seen this one in person yet, so I don't know what it looks like when the doser is removed, but I would assume that with some metalworking skills, you could probably make something out of stainless sheet metal. If I pick this one up, I'll try building something.

Unfortunately, the wife has forced me to have other priorities than obtaining a mill and a lathe for my garage. :( So the big hunk of machined metal that bolts nicely to it probably won't happen anytime soon.

Actually, decided to throw in the towel on this as the shape is pretty difficult and static has been a monster. Will probably just look for an oem doser to put on. I had a soda bottle fit to it and a can but lost many grams to static.

Perhaps a tip for someone finding this thread, searching for a quick solution to the (in my eyes) terrible doser: I hung a funnel under the doser to catch the grinds and lead them in the basket. My scale nicely rests on the stand of the grinder (I removed the portafilter holder). Now I can jank as much as I like to get all the grinds out of the doser without blowing them through my whole kitchen.

My only gripe with the grinder is that it grinds so good (compared to my Compak K-3 elite). Otherwise I could have easily tossed it out.

ps: LMWDP #325 and LMWDP #235, that really confuses me.
