Elektra Nino owners: Can it beat the Robur? - Page 3

Dan, I honestly don't think there's any more danger of losing a digit to that auger than the burrs themselves. Granted, the burrs are a bit more protected by a few inches, but there are definitely folks out there doing much more dangerous things with their grinders than fitting an auger above the burrs.

And if it does turn out to be an issue, I'm sure Grindz will safely remove those pesky finger bits from your burrs and grind chambers

I'll take that as sarcasm instead of actual fact, Jim.

I have a dosered robur with the auger burrset. Sometimes I look at that thing and can imagine the speed with which it could eat a bento box full of fingers. On the other hand (heh), popcorning is a thing of the past and it stays consistent right to the last bean. This is just a firsthand confirmation of previously mentioned factoids. The pun was a freebie.

Would a piece of sheet aluminium bashed roughly in a auger like shape also work? I've got some mods thought out for the Faema MC and if i could single dose without popcorning, that would eliminate my need for a digital timer since those things are expensive.
A Robur auger wouldn't fit since i've got a shaft with outside thread and a nut instead of inside threads and a bolt like the Robur and the K10. Adding 3mm is already stretching it.

For anyone interested in my ideas, it will involve cutting off all the wiper blades and using a blower to blow out all the grounds.

The Robur augur is a bit of a kluge. Horizontal bulk grinders, which have flat burrs without a bean grabbing area, use a helical screw inside a tube to force the beans into the grindstones. So if you want a truly effective single dose, non-popcorning setup, the same thing set vertically, i.e. a tube enclosing a helical screw, would work best.

Home meat mincing/sausage making machines use ABS plastic helical screws; so somebody who believes popcorning is evil, but still wants to try single dosing, can try this out.

gyro wrote:In saying that, I'm not implying the Nino is difficult and its currently the only grinder on my bench. I believe its more to do with the distribution rather than the quality of grind. The Nino grinds are very light and fluffy, but they do tend to get thrown to the back of the PF resulting in a slight front to back pour unless you move the PF a bit while dosing or other post dose methods.

I've found the same thing as Chris. A rotating and forward to back and return movement of the portafilter during dosing gives me very nice consistent pours from just a tamp and go. It's much easier to do than it is to write or read.

While I don't consider my Nino really fully seasoned yet, I find the same portafilter routine to work well.
